please follow the link
he has described it in better way and I took guidance from this person only for chemistry

For essay writing http://www1.aucegypt.edu/academic/writers/
the same strategy could be adopted for long answer writing in Geography and geology or other humanity subjects.

  1. Hi Devesh..

Regarding Geology, can you please guide me on the minimum percentage of questions to be answered to hv a decent score in IFoS exam??
further, my paper-II in Geology is not very strong..am familiar with the basic terms but not the core technical parts like metamorphic reactions, stratigraphic boundaries etc.
It would be really helpful if you could suggest me how you prepared for such topics?/

Also, do you think, based on your experience from Chemistry, that nature of answers is different for IFoS and CSE in some way??

  2. There is nothing like minimum percentage to be attempted in exam to get decent marks. I would rather like to say attempt all questions. The reason is that I feel at least something you know about every question, what you need to do here is that elaborate profoundly on what ever you know about that topic.. even if not related directly with that question asked.. you always try to provide answer.. you may be beating the bushes in your answer but write it.
I am telling you truly that along with quality the quantity matters and indeed it is the later which matters more. never leave any question unanswered. fill at least 1 or preferably 2 supplementary note books.
I have written on orkut that I have Geography as one of my optional in CSE so I found no problem in Paper-I of Geology. As far as Paper-II is concerned I took help of G B Mahapatra and Praveen Singh Engineering Geology. However, see I took maximum help of Internet to understand the terms and saw diagrams and then explained them in exam in my way.
What is important is that you must practice answer writing at your home at least twice about every topic mentioned in the syllabus. Write one or two pages. It will help surely believe me.
Again I would like to say that even if you do not know the real answer.. although there is nothing like real answer...write it what ever you know. Practice Phecology at your home. Never forget to write the significance of the process, term etc asked in your question.

There is no difference in writing in CSE or IFoS.

  4. I Have followed just one strategy of Abhijit and that is Writing and rewriting the answers at home. I have followed different set of book for chemistry. I have not even seen what notes he has shared. His list is very big for me to follow. For Physical chemistry I have followed K L Kapoor, organic Ahaluwalia, Maitland Jones Jr., Peter etc. Inorganic, Lee and Huheey. Only theses books I studied and did quite a good answer writing practice.
For geology Paper-I found no problem since Geography as my optional in ICS. For Paper-II I took help of Internet and other book I have mentioned in above post. I have also took help of Artheur Holems: Physical nature of earth, It is very good book and very lucid language.
Internet is best help remember always, here you can find animations, Video lecture etc., and this will be easy to recollect and reproduce in exam. But never forget to write and rewrite practice at your home.
    All the best.
if you have any other query let me know.

  5. I did not make notes for any topic in both of optional. What I did was that when ever I found any new relevant information pr any better way or writing the same thing .. say some better words I noted them down. Thats all. Notes making in my opinion is not essential. What is essential is that you read the same material again and again and do answer writing practice.
I have not seen Brilliant Tutorial notes. You may use them to see different set of questions and for answer solving practice. In my view Books are the Best.
Your query for GS is very open ended dear.Still note down.
I studied The Hindu + Sunday Economic times for current affair. For History I have looked in to modern NCERT and Bipin Chandra.before the exam I revised all. I cut down all the important news and just Economic survey and last 6-7 years statistics I solved. You may I also visit pmo, MEA website for latest happening. I did and it was useful.

With my science background I found Science portion little easy. What ever comes in news be in contact with it.

For Social Issue go on the website of Ministry of social Justice and empowerment and Ministry of tribal affair. Screen both thoroughly.

I'm preparing notes for this topic for people like you and shall upload it on either this blog or on a separate mail Id whose Id and password I shall put here so that you people can download that.
